This is an introductory booklet on poet Kim Ki-taek, produced for literary events at the Guadalajara International Book Fair and a nearby university—held between November 30 and December 4. On December 3, Kim Ki-taek introduced his work Gum at Salón Mariano Azuela. The event was organized directly by Bonobos, the publisher of the Spanish translation of Gum. From March to December, 2013, students at University of Guadalajara were invited to participate in a Korean literature essay contest, and Kim Ki-taek attended the award ceremony on December 2. In addition, he was interviewed by three journalists: Erick Ampersand, Raúl Armenta Asencio, and Marcos Dniel. This 28-page booklet consists of: “About the Author’s Literary World”, “About the Work”, “5 Poems”, “Essay”, “Biography” and “Bibliography”. The following poems are included: El chicle, Comiendo pulpitos crudos, and Panceta de cerdo.

2011 Literary Events in Australia with Korean Poets : Author Kim Ki-taek Introductory Booklet

This is an introductory material on poet Kim Ki-taek, produced for the 2011 Literary Event in Australia with Korean Poets. On August 28, poet Kim Ki-taek participated in the small poetry reading and discussion event held at the Red Room Poetry’s Clubhouse. On August 30, he participated in a lecture on the “Trend of Korean Poetry” and held a discussion with the members of a local literary society at the Chinese restaurant Yonggung in Sydney. He also participated in the Melbourne Writers Festival on September 3 and read his works in front of an audience of about 90 people at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the Wheeler Centre in Melbourne. On September 4, Kim recited his works, which was broadcast by 3RRR Radio. The 13-page information booklet consists of three sections: “About the Author,” “About the Works,” and “Excerpts.” It includes Kim’s poems such as “Gray Socks,” “Eating A Live Octopus,” and “Cow.”

Literatura Coreana: Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties between Korea and Brazil

This is an introductory material on writers produced for literary events held in three major cities in Brazil in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. At the Writers' Room (Sala dos Autores) of the Rio de Janeiro Biennale, local journalists and book bloggers were invited to attend a discussion on Korean literature with three writers, Kim Ki-taek, Park Min-gyu, and Kang Byoung-yoong. At Livraria da Travessa Leblon, six writers from Korea and Brazil held a conversation on the theme of “Literature, Nationalism and Globalization/Minority Languages & Universal Values.” At the opening ceremony of the 4th Korean Literature Essay Contest held in the building of the Brasilia Writers’ Association, novelist Kang Byoung-yoong held a conversation with the poet Paulo José Cunha about his book Alluminyum oi (Aluminum Cucumber, Topbooks, 2018), as the essay on his book received the grand prize in the contest. Novelist Park Min-gyu attended the Korean Literature Translation Workshop held at the University of Sao Paulo. Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Korean Studies had time to inquire and discuss the translation process of Park’s fiction Castella with the writer. The introductory material introduces poet Kim Ki-taek, novelist Park Min-gyu, and novelist Kang Byoung-yoong, and also includes essays written by the three writers, 10 poems from Kim Ki-taek's poetry collection Kkeom (껌 Gum), as well as excerpts from Park Min-gyu's short story collection Is That So? I’m a Giraffe and Kang Byoung-yoong's novel Alluminyum oi (알루미늄 오이 Aluminum Cucumber).

The theme of _List Vol. 14 is “Spotlight on Korean Pop Culture.” Under five subthemes “redefining the Korean Wave,” “a new digital paradigm,” “from paper to screen and back to paper,” “from beloved Korean pop to K-pop,” and “Korean films that created the Korean Wave,” this issue introduces educational entertainment, games, television dramas, and K-Pop, which have spearheaded the surge of the Korean Wave. In addition, this issue features interviews with novelists Yi Mun-yol and Kim Insuk, Korean publishing trends, coverage of the acceptance of Korean literature overseas, a spotlight on a literary site, book reviews of fiction/nonfiction/children’s literature, and the translation of Jung Young Moon’s short story “Together with a Chicken” and introduces steady sellers, publishers, and trends in Korean literature to overseas readers.
