This anthology includes short stories by writers who were active from the early stages of the so-called new literature (modern literature) up until the post-war era, as well as by writers who were active amid the chaos of the post-war era. The included works provide a glimpse into the history of turbulence in Korea and the thoughts of writers who witnessed and experienced those turbulent times.

소위 신문학(현대문학)의 여명기부터 종전 시기까지 활동했던 작가들의 단편 작품과, 전후 혼란 속에서 활동했던 작가들의 단편 작품이 수록되어 있다. 수록 작품들을 통해 한국 동란의 역사와 그것을 목격한 작가들의 정신과 사유를 엿볼 수 있다.
