Park-sshi is abused by her mother-in-law for being unable to bear children, while her husband despises her and gets a second wife. Park-sshi sells her silver hairpin to pay for a shamanic right to wish for a child, but she is beaten and kicked out of her home by her mother-in-law and her husband. Although she is a long way from home, she walks 20 li during the night to return home, saying that regardless of whether she lives or dies she has to be at home.

This is a tragic portrayal of a woman who lives a life oppressed by traditional values. It presents the obdurateness of the traditional values of the time and the suffering that results from it.

1939년 잡지 <여성>에 발표된 단편소설이다. 전통적인 가치관에 의해 억압된 삶을 살아가는 여성의 모습을 비극적으로 묘사했다. 당대 전통적 가치관의 완고함과 그로 인한 고달픈 삶을 보여준다.
