Plot

After completing his mandatory military service, Cheol-su lives at his sister's house without a specific job. His sister's husband Sang-geun beats his sister every time and takes her money, saying that he is trying to start a business. One day, his sister leaves home without a word to meet her ex-husband, and suggested that Cheol-su come with her to Busan. However, Cheol-su takes a different path from his sister.

This is a short story published in the magazine Sasanggye in 1956. It depicts the reality without hope in the extreme conditions after the Korean War. The title, which means “lost dream,” reveals the state Korea was in after the Korean War from an ecological point of view.

1956년 잡지 <사상계>에 발표된 단편소설이다. 한국 전쟁 후의 극한 상황에서 희망이 보이지 않는 현실을 묘사하고 있다. 제목인 '유실몽'은 '꿈을 잃다'라는 의미로, 전후의 상황을 생태학적인 관점에서 드러낸다.
