Plot

In the face of pressure from real politics, Mr. Kim and the villagers conform to their surroundings without any objection or resistance. Even when violence breaks out in front of the villagers, no one protests, and each only worries about his or her own well-being. The seven-year-old protagonist calmly observes these villagers.

A short story from Yang Gwi-ja’s 1987 short story collection titled The People in Wonmi-dong was published as a bilingual edition in 2012. Using a child narrator, it sharply presents the problems of reality and the issues that adults wish to keep hidden.

1987년에 출간된 양귀자의 소설집<원미동 사람들>에 수록된 단편을 '바이링궐 에디션'으로 2012년에 출간했다. 작품은 어린이를 화자로 내세워 은폐하고 싶은 어른들의 모습과 현실의 문제를 날카롭게 제시하고 있다.
